    Pay transparency is rare in African hiring. Most job adverts skip salary entirely, recruiters rarely volunteer ranges, and the few public datasets that exist are usually 2 to 4 years out of date. The result: candidates accept offers that are 20-30% below market because nobody told them what their role actually pays. We built this guide to fix that.

    Each role page below combines three data sources: anonymised offer data from JobLadda users, public job board scrapes (Jobberman, BrighterMonday, LinkedIn, Glassdoor) and verified employer disclosures from major African employers and multinationals operating on the continent. Numbers are quoted in USD-equivalent monthly gross pay so you can compare across Naira, Cedi, Shilling and Rand without doing the conversion yourself. We refresh the dataset quarterly.

    Salary in Africa is not just about role and experience. Three factors swing pay more than anything else: the country you work in, the size of the employer (multinational vs local SME), and whether the role is remote-first. A mid-level software engineer in Lagos working for a US-based remote company will often out-earn a senior engineer at a local bank by 2x or more. We surface those segments in every role page so the median actually means something to you.

    Use this guide three ways. First, benchmark your current pay before you ask for a raise, ideally with three data points that match your role, country and experience. Second, set a target floor before any interview process so you do not anchor low when the recruiter asks "what are you looking for?". Third, plan your two-year move: pick a role one band above your current level, see what it pays, and reverse-engineer the skills you need to get there.     How we compile our salary data

    Every salary number on JobLadda passes through a three-step verification process. First, we ingest anonymised offer letters and pay stubs that JobLadda users submit when they update their profile after landing a role. Second, we scrape live job adverts from the largest African boards (Jobberman, BrighterMonday Kenya, MyJobMag, PNet, Adzuna) plus the African presence of LinkedIn, Glassdoor and Indeed. Third, we layer in verified disclosures from public salary surveys (Stutern, Ringier, JobsLeap, AfricaNXT, Andela career reports) and cross-check against the median.

    When the three sources disagree by more than 25%, we flag the role for manual review by a coach who has actually worked or recruited for that position in the relevant market. We do not publish a number until at least two sources agree within a 15% band. This is slower than scraping a single board, but it is why our medians match what real candidates actually receive.
